At Só Dança, we’ve spent years considering how to preserve that experience. With PolyTone tap technology, we believe we’ve created something worth sharing.
What Is PolyTone?
PolyTone is our proprietary, precision-engineered tap material—an injected polymer compound designed to replace traditional metal taps.
It isn’t the name of a shoe model, and it isn’t a novelty. It’s the result of asking one simple question: does a tap need to be made of metal to sound like a tap?
After extensive development, we discovered that the answer is no.
PolyTone taps are screwed directly onto the heels and riveted to the toes, maintaining the same secure physical connection with the floor. The difference lies in the material itself—and in the possibilities that material creates.

What PolyTone Changes
Moving beyond traditional metal taps creates several meaningful advantages.
Engineered for consistency. Traditional metal taps are cast, meaning small differences between individual units can occur. PolyTone taps are injection-moulded to precise tolerances, helping every pair deliver consistent performance. For studio owners equipping an entire class, that reliability matters. When 15 students tap together, you want a uniform sound rather than 15 slightly different tonal responses.
Vegan construction. PolyTone is part of Só Dança’s fully vegan tap shoe collection, made without metal or animal-derived materials. For dancers and families who carefully consider what goes into their footwear, this provides a thoughtful alternative.
Colour becomes part of the design. Traditional metal taps generally come in a single silver finish. PolyTone makes it possible to create coordinated colour combinations, such as tan taps paired with a caramel upper or black taps on a black shoe.
